The Structure of Simple and Coordinate Phrases in terms of Constituent and Deletion

2022-09
Humanities Journal of University of Zakho (HJUOZ (القضية : 3) (الحجم : 10)
Abstract: The types of phrase structures are considered important in syntax. Moreover, it is one of the ways of identifying the phrase structure in Kurdish (Northern Kurmanji, Badeni sub-dialect) in terms of constituency which are simple and coordinate structures. The present study investigates whether noun and prepositional phrases are simple or coordinate. Each of these types are classified into four types but this study investigates only two types of them, namely noun and prepositional phrases. It has also adopted a descriptive approach for analyzing the data based on x-bar theory. The contribution of this study is that it tries to analyze the phrase structure in terms of identifying the type of the category, number and order (determiner, head, complement). The other contribution of this study is identifying the deletion of the structure. The study aims at identifying the relationship between the different constituents and phrases because the type, number and order affects the structure of the simple and coordinate phrase. It also indicates the deletion of the constituents that can be deleted from the structure because it is not possible to delete all the constituents in these phrase. Keywords: structure, constituent, simple phrase, coordinate phrase, deletion

Existence-dependent sentence type classification

2021-08
Journal of University of Garmian (القضية : 3) (الحجم : 8)
14 Abstract Existence-dependent sentence type classification Sentence type classification is considered a significant domain in the field of syntax. There are a number of classifications in different languages; typology is the most common one. In Kurdish language(Bahdinani Sub-dialect) the existence-dependent classification(systematic, non-systematic) depends on the existence of the sentence and its abidance with the clause syntactic rules. The method that this research relies upon is `The Analytical - Descriptive Method, and this paper attempts to shed lights on the importance of the existence of the constituents of the clauses in structuring all types (non-simple, intermingled) of sentences including simple sentences. This is to say that clauses are the constituent elements in constructing systematic and non-systematic sentences. The other important point about this study is showing the effect and realitionshep of clause type on sentence type classification in Kurish language, Sentence variation is entirely dependent on the variation in clause structures. There are many components in the structures of the clause that result in constructing different clauses which on their way affect the construction of different sentences. Keywords: sentence, clause, systematic, non-systematic.

Structural Effect of Object Phrase on Passive Voice Sentence

2019-09
Journal of University of Zaxo (القضية : 3) (الحجم : 7)
Abstract: This study is an attempt to give a new analysis and structure for making a Passive Voice sentence in Kurdish language which is not only the existence of transitive verbs and object is important for making these types of sentences، but the constituents structure of that phrases which are ruled as an object are also important، and the impact of the that constituents is directly clear on the process of making a passive voice sentence، because ، there are several constituent whether are head or complement will be obstacles for making a passive voice sentence. Binding theory consists of three principles، accordingly، three types of Nauon phrases; anaphor، pronominal، and referential expression are displayed. In this study، the three Nauon phrases are used as an object in a passive voice sentence، and they are used as samples during making passive voice sentences from active ones. It is to be concluded that all active voice cannot be passive voice sentences; consequently، the types of phrases are the reasons behind it. The Force Phrase in Northen: Behdini Sub-dailect

2017-09
Journal of University of Zaxo (القضية : 3) (الحجم : 5)
This paper investigates " the Force Phrase in Northern: Bahdinani Sub- dialect". It aims at identifying those elements that realize Force of the utterance in Kurdish and their syntactic behavior throughout the levels of derivation of the utterance. The investigation is carried out within the framework of the Government and Binding Theory as developed in Chomsky (1981; 1986). We find this theory quite appropriate for analysis of Kurdish data as it provides multi-levels of analysis (DS; SS; LF; PF). The study Hypothesizes that in Kurdish two parameters of movementare available depending on the type of Force signaled by the utterance. Thus, in statements، the force element has no phonological realization when the clause is dependent ، but in dependent clauses the complementizer (ku) occupies the head position of the Force phrase. In questions، however، some interrogative words move overtly at S-structure to (Spec-Force P) ،while others move covertly to tha
