METAL COMPLEXES OF SCHIFF BASE DERIVED FROM SALICYLALDEHYDE – A REVIEW

Salicyaldehyde and their derivatives can be condensed with amines in 1:1 and 2:1 ratio to form bi, tri and tetra dentate NO and N2O2 Schiff base Ligands. They can contain additional donor atoms like oxygen, sulphur, nitrogen etc. which makes them Suit￾able chelating ligands to coordinate with Metal ions to form Schiff base complexes. Thus provides the possibility synthesis of large number of Schiff base complexes with divers’ structural feature. The model system including those with bidentate, triden￾tate and tetra dentate Schiff base derived from Salicyaldehyde and their coordination chemistry are summarized in this review.

The Fabrication of Porous Silicon by Electrochemical Etching with Photo Assisted

he properties of porous silicon was studied by using photo-electro-chemical etching to prepare porous silicon from available mirror-like n-type (111) oriented silicon wafer with resistivity (ρ=(1.5-4)Ω.cm), under illumination of100W of Tungsten Lamp with anodization (5,10,15)min, The gravimetric measurements were used to find the layer thickness of porous silicon.

Synthesis and characterization of some new mononuclear complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) with N2S2 donor Schiff base ligands

: Two new tetradentate ligands (L1 and L2) N,N'-bis {(o-aminophenylthio)bromo propyl} 1-phenyl butane 1,3-dilidene (L1), N, N'-bis (3- bromo propyl (phenylthio) imino)1,1,1-trifluoro -3-(2-theonyl) acetone (L2) were prepared from the reaction of equimolar amount of (o-aminophenylthio) propylebromide and benzoylacetone or 2- theonyltrifluoro acetone in (2:1) molar ratio. Reaction of the above ligands with cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper (II) and zinc(II) chloride salts gave the complexes of the general formulas: [M(L)]Cl2 and [Zn(L)Cl2], M= Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II), L= L1-L2. The synthesized ligands and their complexes were characterized by their elemental analysis FTIR, UV-Vis, metal content, conductivity measurement and magnetic measurement. On the basis of these studies at four coordinate tetrahedral geometry around the metal ion has been proposed and the ligands behave us tetradentate from nitrogen atoms of the azomthine and two sulfur atoms while for zinc (II) complexes from the two sulfur atoms and two chloride ions.

New nickel (II) complexes with benzilbis (semicarbazone) and dithiocarbamate ligands Z. F. Dawood*, T. J. Mohammed** and M. R. Sharif

Abstract The preparation of new nickel (II) complexes with mixed ligands including benzilbis- (semicarbazone) - SCH2 and one of dithiocarbamate ligands (ammonium pyrrolidenedithio- carbamate - Pyrdtc or ammonium indolinedithiocarbamate - Indtc) have been carried out in both neutral and basic medium. The resulted complexes have been characterized using elemental analysis by atomic absorption spectroscopy and by precipitation method, molar conductance measurements, refraction measurements, magnetic susceptibilities, infrared and electronic spectra. The study suggested that the above ligands formed neutral complexes having general formula [Ni(SCH2)(L)X] or [Ni2(SCH2)2(L)2Xn] in neutral medium and [Ni(SCH)(L)] or [Ni2(SCH)2(L)2] in basic medium (where SCH=deprotonated (-1H) from SCH2 ligand; L= the ligand Pyrdtc or Indtc; X= Cl- or NO3 - or CH3COO- or SO4 -2, n= 1 or 2). Hexacoordinated mononuclear (monomer) complexes or dimeric complexes have been investigated by this study, having octahedral geometries.

My MSc thesis includes the preparation and characterization of mumber of new nickel(II) complexes with mixed Iigands including benzi bis(thiosemicarbazone)-TSH; or benzil bis(semicarbazone)-SCH, and ammonium pytrolidene dithiocarbamate - Pyrdte or ammonium indoline dithiocarbamate - Indre or bis(pyrrolidene) thiorumdisulfur- Pyrtds. The resulted complexes have been characterized using elemental analysis by atomic absorption spectroscopy & by precipitation method, Molar conductance measurements, Magnetic susceptibilities, IR and Electronic spectra. The study suggests that the above ligands form ionic or neutral complexes having general formula [Ni(AH;)(L)X] or [N{AH;(L)X;] or [N:(AH,):(L),X,) or [Niz(pyrdtc);(TSH;)NO,JNO, in neutral medium ; Whereas, neutral complexes of the general formula [Ni(AHXL)) or (Ni(A)(L)) or (Ni;(AH);(L)] or [Niz(A):(L)] in basic medium, (where AH,- TSH; or SCH; ligand, AH-deprotonated (-1H) TSH; or SCH, ligand, A- deprotonated (-2H) TSH, or SCH2 ligand, L- the ligand Pyrdte or Indie or Pyrtds, X= Cl or NO, or CH,COO or SO, ,-1 or 2 or 4) in which the ligand act as neutral or anionic in neutral or basic medium, respectively.. Hexacoordinated mononuclear (monomer) complexes or dimeric complexes have been investgated by this study and having octahedral geometries.
