Elements of Environmental management of hazardous medical waste in university hospital Dusseldorf in Germany are a case study

This study describes the importance of environmental management system on the hazardous medical waste treatment as well as the evaluation of its role in the collection and separation of different wastes produced from different clinical departments at the University Hospital Dusseldorf .Germany. the study found that the annual average of the hazardous wastes during the last six years about (7272)Kg. This huge quantity of such hazardous waste needs an urgent and special environmental management to collect, transport, temporary storage and safe transport within the hospital building until transferred to the treating location station .Also there is a great need for qualified persons to manage these kinds of medical wastes. The responsible department for these wastes was the environmental protection department, directed by the assistant director of the hospital. This department was responsible for the following processes such as collection, separation, labeling storage and documenting of all kinds of hazardous wastes .It was found that these wastes was collected every two weeks and stored temporarily until the special environmental treating company comes to transport them to the final treating location, which were different and specific.
