This paper discusses the effect of passion when deciding the important life matters and judging others through emotional desire instead of reason. First, it demonstrates a short background of Jacobean drama and tragedy as a prominent dramatic genre of that time. The purpose of this study is to examine and analyzes characters’ behaviour that leads to their own destruction. The methods that are employed in this study are the crucial notions of French psychoanalyst-feminist Julia Kristeva and her study of human behavior. Through play’s textual analysis, the study has reached certain findings regarding the presentations of complex characters in Middleton’s play, especially the main female characters. Finally, this study’s conclusions elaborate the Kristeva’s notions concerning certain behaviour that women characters perform in the play that show the motives behind their actions, whether driven by reason or passion. It is worth mentioning that Kristeva’s critical notions related to desire and passion are used as the main tools of analysis to clarify the actions of one of the main female characters in the play, Beatrice, which result from her passional personality. The way Beatrice makes use of her body to achieve certain desires or even used as a means of seduction is analyzed through Kristeva’s scope of studying feminine body.
This paper discusses the definition and the use of sound
devices in Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s Kubla Khan (1816)
which creates the poem’s musicality. It shows the
biography of the life of the poet and his contributions to
English literature. A short clarification of the poem
Kubla Khan will be presented in this paper along with
the main literary techniques such as alliteration,
assonance, consonance, onomatopoeia and rhyme,
responsible for creating the musicality in the poem with
reference to the lines in the poem. The paper highly
focuses on the language used to answer the questions
raised in this research in which it makes the paper
discourse analytic research. It is worth noting that the
conclusion in the paper provides the existence of
musicality in the poem.

Dramatic Monologue in T. S. Eliot’s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock
This paper discusses the use of ‘dramatic monologue’ and ‘stream of consciousness’ in T. S. Eliot’s “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock”. It highlights the history of the two terms with references to certain lines of the poem. It unveils the effect of using such a technique by Eliot. The paper investigates how the speaker ‘J. Alfred Prufrock’ is trying to communicate with the reader in dramatic monologue. Furthermore, it examines how J. Alfred Prufrock’s brain and process of thoughts is working through the use of stream of consciousness and interior monologue to achieve such process of thoughts. The paper pays all the attention to main character’s language to answer the research’s question in which makes the paper a discourse analytic research. The main question that the paper raises is how Prufrock’s behavior explains the existence of dramatic monologue within himself. It is worth mentioning that the paper’s conclusion provides the findings of the research.

Misandry and Resistance in Sylvia Plath’s Mushrooms and Lady Lazarus
This paper discusses the two concepts of misandry and resistance in two famous poems by Sylvia Plath, namely Mushrooms (1959) and Lady Lazarus (1962). It focuses on the sufferings of women in the distressful life conditions they witness in patriarchal societies. It also reveals men’s perception of women in male-dominated communities and the reaction of women to such perceptions. Through the female speakers of the poems, Plath stands against the patriarchal norms. She expresses her resentment at men’s treatment of women. The paper takes into consideration the critical views of three French feminist–psychoanalytic theorists− Julia Kristeva (1941- ), Helene Cixous (1937- ), and Luce Irigaray (1930- )− to provide a concrete poetic analysis of the two selected poems. In this study, Plath is shown to represent the entire post-WWII female generation. The study sheds light on the domestic environment women were living and how they were oppressed in society by men. It aims to illustrate the obstacles that failed women to speak up and discover their own identity. The study argues that the difficult life women experienced has made them develop the sense of misandry and resist the tyrannical rule of men. The paper covers the two poems in a chronological order: first, Mushrooms, which is normally regarded as Plath’s preparation for the fight against patriarchy, and then, Lady Lazarus, which symbolizes resistance and triumph over the oppressive power of men.

Misandry in Selected Poems by Sylvia Plath - MA Thesis
This thesis discusses the concept of misandry in five selected poems by Sylvia Plath. It attempts to identify the poetic contexts where this term forms much of their meaning. The study uses a critical approach by benefitting from the French feminist-psychoanalytic theory to gain answers for the questions it raises from its study material. It is a work that highlights the social significance of literature, particularly poetry. The thesis contains four main chapters, a conclusion and a list of references. The first chapter is the introduction. It consists of a general overview of the postmodern time when Plath had spent her life in. The chapter includes the aims, theories, methodology and literature review.
The second chapter covers the historical background when the poems were written. It also provides a short biography of Plath. Since she is one of the pioneers of confessional style, a short illustration of the style is made. It also gives an explanation of the concept of misandry.
The third core chapter contains the analysis of three of the selected poems: “Mushrooms” (1959), “Lady Lazarus” (1962), and “Daddy” (1962). It discusses misandry as the main theme of the poems. The influence of patriarchy on her inner and outer worlds is revealed. The speaking subject in her poems is analyzed accordingly. The chapter also illustrates her protest against the social norms set by patriarchy. It also discusses the causes that lead to her suicidal personality and interest in death. The poems are divided into two stages. “Mushrooms” represents the first stage that deals with Plath’s preparation to fight against patriarchy. While “Lady Lazarus” and “Daddy” are considered the second stage that involves resistance.
Also core, chapter four focuses more on Plath’s inner world. It covers the other two of her latest poems, “Sheep in Fog” (1963) and “Paralytic” (1963). She laments her situation as a female entity while living in a male-dominated society. It deals with the victimization of Plath’s personality and body. Her disappointment in society that leads to her misandry partially forms the content of this chapter. These two poems are the last stage that explain Plath’s aim of her resistance and how she has delivered her message regarding women’s victimization under the rule of patriarchy. Ultimately comes the conclusion chapter that sums up the answers the study has for the questions raised in the first chapter and a list of references used throughout the main body of this thesis.
