Effect of Humic Acid, Seaweed Extracts and Organic Fertilizer on the Growth and Yield of Broccoli (Brassica Oleracea)

Two-successive greenhouse experiments were conducted at the protected cultivation department in Zakho Technical Institute, Dohuk Polytechnic University, Kurdistan region of Iraq during the seasons of 2021-2022 and 2021-2022 to inspect the growth and yield response of broccoli cultivar (Agassirz) to foliar application of humic acid and seaweed extract at concentration of 0, 2, and 4 ml.L-1 for the both and using of organic fertilizer (animal manure) at three levels 0, 5, and 10 ton.ha-1. The treatments were organized in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replicates. The obtained data revealed that the foliar application of humic acid and seaweed extract at concentration of 4 ml.L-1 and organic manure of 10 ton.donum-1 resulted in significant increase in vegetative traits of plant height (cm), number of leaves.plant-1, and number of head per plant and yield attributes of head weight (g), head dry matter (%), and yield (kg.m2), Whereas the humic and seaweed at concentration (2) ml.L-1 and organic manure applied at 10) ton.donum-1 importantly affected the fresh weight of vegetative growth. The topmost ever values were produced from the triple treatment; humic acid at (4) ml.L-1 ) + seaweed at (4) ml.L-1 + organic fertilizer at (10) ton.donum-1 in comparison with control and other doses.

Repercussion of visual pollution and its effects on some people in Duhok governorate/Iraq

n spite of the scientific development and the continuous technological progress in all different fields,... See more

n spite of the scientific development and the continuous technological progress in all different fields, the economic prosperity in many societies has increased. But at the same time has negatively affected health and the environment as a whole due to different cases of pollution that raised from caused by industrial progress, and visual pollution is one of those types of pollution, and therefore must be seriously taken into consideration. So visual pollution is an aesthetic issue referring to the impacts of pollution that impair one’s ability to enjoy a vista or view. The term of visual pollution is also given to unattractive and man-made visual elements of vista, a landscape or any other things that make a person not to feel comfortable to look at. The purpose of this study was to identify repercussion of visual pollution and its influenceon public psychological health of some people in Duhok Centre and suburbs and also Zakho-Duhok Road. The results showed us from this study after presenting a group of photographs related to some cases of visual pollution on 500 people from of different age consisted of group of females and males during nine months from August 2017 to May 2018 from the Centre of Duhok and its Suburbs and the road linking the City of Zakho and Duhok that there was a discrepancy in the cases of Psychological discomfort for those people who were questioned resulting from looking at that image related to visual pollution and lead to the occurrence of some cases of Psychological illnesses. The good planning and managing is neglected by Government adding the lack of awareness about reducing the visual pollution and other types of pollution on a daily basis and working in harmony with a clean environment through activating and enforcing environmental protection laws.

The experiment was conducted in a plastic house (500m2) at the vegetable research field Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture, University of Dohuk, Iraq, to study the effect of foliar application of seaweed extracts (seaforce and seamino) with concentrations (0.0, 1.5ml/L) for both extracts and exposure to low temperature (7±1)οC for three durations (0, 5 and 10) days on the vegetative growth, flowering and yield of two cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) cultivars Karol and Reem cultivars. The extracts were sprayed three times with seven days intervals. The first spray was done on April 25th, 2011. Seeds were sown on February 22th, 2011 in plates, two seeds per pod inside the plastic house. The seedlings were exposed to low temperature after emergence of four true leaves by putting them inside cooling room. Then the seedlings were transplanted in plastic house field on March 12th, 2011 along eight perforated lines each seedling at a hole with a distance of 30 cm between each two plants. The experiment was arranged in a factorial experiment within split-split plot in a randomized complete block design with four replicates. means Comparison was done by using Duncan’s multiple range tests at 0.05% level. the results revealed that seaweed extracts, low temperature significantly improved most vegetative traits as well as flowering and yield characters.
