The aim of the study is to identify the effect of the use of the blended learning strategy on eight year students’ receiving for geographical concepts and development of geographical survey.
The sample of the study consist of 131 male and female students from basic education schools for male and female in Zakho city in which belong to Duhok province in Kurdistan Region of Iraq for the year 2015-2016. The sample is selected by using random style of the study population according to gender variable. Then selective style is selected, by selecting two schools of basic education; Baderkhan for male and Deman for female.
Subsequently, the student divided the sample into four equivalent groups by depending on number of variables (age by months, grade of social subject of seventh class, the degree of intelligence, geographical survey of tribal and the educational level of parents). This division was based on experimental design factor (2*2) at two variables of teaching methods and gender. Both experimental groups of male and female studies geography subject according to blended learning education strategy.
Moreover, the control groups of male and female also studied the same subject with the same method. In order to achieve the research aim, the researcher prepared two tools: first: conceptual test to measure the receiving of the sample for geographical concepts that are in its final form of 30 items distributed equally over the 10 essential geographic concepts to measure the concepts elements (definition, example, application). The test consists of two kinds; firstly matching when definition and secondly multiple triple choice of alternatives when at the components of example and application. Also, the research check the authenticity of content for test and extract its psychometric from discrimination power and the coefficient of plaints and the effectiveness of the alternatives as well as its stability.
However, the second tool was the geographical scale survey has been prepared in the light of scientific survey, which was prepared by Cam Phell (1981), it has been adapted to the geography of photographers by the researcher. It was prepared in its final form (30) items distributed on (10) geographical areas with questions format for geographic phenomenon followed by three paragraphs, and each paragraph has three alternatives (always, sometime, and rarely). The researcher has verified the validity and psychometric properties and persistence in two ways (replays, internal consistency).
In order to carry out the search experience, the researcher prepared a set of studying plans for groups of experimental research on the base of blended learning education strategy, and normal method for both control groups. As well as preparing the essential requirements for blended education like data show device, computer, iPad and computers programs. After that, the researcher applied by himself his experiment on Saturday 17/5/2015 and ended on Thursday 24/12/2015. Then he applied his two tools on 26-27/12/2016.
After collecting the data from the population about both tools and treat them statistically by using analysis of variance test bidirectional factor, this was according to the variables of gender and teaching method and the interaction between them. The results indicated to:
1. There is a statistical difference at level (0.05) between the average of receiving geographical concepts among research group members, according to the gender variable and method, and in favor of female and blended learning education strategy.
2. There is a statistical difference at level (0.05) between the average of geographical survey development among research group members, depending to the gender variable and in favor of female.
3. There is no difference statistically at level (0.05) between the average of research group members in absorbing geographical concepts and geographical survey development among research group members, depending to the interaction of gender and method variables, and method variables in geographical surveying.
In light of the findings, the researcher came out with a number of conclusions, including the possibility of the application of blended learning strategy in the teaching of geography material for students of basic education, as well as its effectiveness in helping students to absorbing geographical concepts to the adoption of educational technology in teaching, moreover provide a conducive learning environment for geographical survey and explore the realities, finally, the researcher presented a number of proposals in the form of addresses for future research to examine the independent and dependent research variables, also, completing that hasn’t been studied in the research.
